The Star Wars Extended Universe is divided into eras which are based loosely on the timeline around the six Star Wars films: The Phantom Menace (Episode I), Attack of the Clones (Episode II), Revenge of the Sith (Episode III), New Hope (Episode IV), The Empire Strikes Back (Episode V), and Return of the Jedi (Episode VI) .

The extended universe eras are: Old Republic Era, Rise of the Empire Era, Rebellion Era, New Republic Era, New Jedi Order Era, and Legacy of the Force Era.
